History: Wiki link! There isn't much known about his past before the start of the show save he's an alumni of the school, he and Present Mic were classmates and his hero office was located next door to Ms. Joke's.

Personality:

It's worth noting that in a world where the hero scene is celebrated and televised 24/7, a top-notch hero like Aizawa Shouta, aka Eraserhead, is almost completely unknown. Only the most diehard hero nerds (ie, Midoriya) know who he is, and only once his quirk's been revealed because he shows himself in front of the media so seldomly. Part of this is because he's more effective if people don't know what he looks like; his quirk, the ability to erase other people's powers as he looks at them, is much more valuable when people don't know what's going on.

The other reason is because he fucking hates the media.

Aizawa isn't a purposefully mysterious and private person so much as he never talks about himself or reveals anything about himself if he can help it. He's largely unsociable, taciturn, low-energy and unkempt in the way a desperate shut-in might be. Despite this he's also one of the top heroes, as well as a core teacher at one of the most famous hero schools in the country of Japan and has been for several years.

Aizawa prizes logic and reason above acting rashly. He can be described as cold, but really it's more that he's acutely professional. If a villain jumps his students and he needs information? He'll smack that villain down as quick as possible and break some limbs until he gets what he wants. If he needs to tell a studen to shut up and get over themselves, he won't mince words: "shut up and stop being such a child," he's said to one of the most explosive kids in class, and he was listened to.

Not in the least the overbearing type, Aizawa only tends to get involved when necessary. He prefers people around him figure things out by themselves, unless the situation calls for his intervention. He's very much accustomed to being on the frontlines of the heroes vs crime+villains fight, and keeps a cool head in just about every situation. He can lose his temper and snap sometimes, but it's never something he apologizes for since it's just about always deserved. If he snaps it's usually because someone is being a fuckboy and screwing around with someone else who can't defend themselves.

Despite his strict and emotionally distant nature, Aizawa is incredibly observant of the people around him, and especially of his students. It's clear he's developed a sense of duty toward them, to nurture them and act as an interim guardian while they're in his care. He pays close attention to their growth both physical and mental, and knows that their emotional states are his responsibility as well and will occasionally offer them advice (though he prefers to teach through doing rather than telling). He's been accused of being soft and kind-hearted by a couple of the other heroes, probably because he tends to invest himself very deeply in the wellbeing of the people around them and support them quietly but wholly, rather than dispensing advice here and there before flitting off to help another poor soul.

Abilities:

Quirk: Aizawa has what's called a quirk, or a power that he was born with/developed in his early childhood. His quirk is called Erasure, in that so long as he's looking at a target, he can erase their powers, or their 'quirk' in the terms of the canon. It works only on quirks that require activation; so, if someone was born with a tail he wouldn't be able to make the tail disappear, but if they could grow a tail he could stop that. His negation powers stop once he blinks.

Besides that, he's very skilled in hand-to-hand combat and using his specialized wire & carbon nanofiber wrappings to restrain targets.
